We are delighted to be able to report that during the Charlton Chase last Saturday night both of our UCTC teams performed really well. They came in third and seventh out of the thirty five teams taking part. The Charlton Chase is an annual 25km night navigation exercise on the South Downs, with the route taking in Steyning, Chanctonbury ring down, Sompting Abbot and Lancing College.

Team Alpha Q comprised of Callum Jones, Ollie Southall, Fraser Munn and Daniel Manvell. They came in third with a start time of 17:33 and a Finish time 01:24.

Team Suicide Squad comprised of Jacob Oyarzabal, Tom Croft, Darius Abadi and Austin Munn. They came in seventh with a start time 17:38 and a finish time 02:38. UCTC is very proud to have such capable, independent and resilient students.

Sussex Schools’ Badminton - Thursday 1st February

Our Key Stage 3 girls travelled to The Triangle Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill on the 1st February to compete in the County round of this year’s National Schools’ Competition.

We won our first two matches convincingly against Tanbridge House and Ormiston Six Villages 5-0 and 4-1 respectively.

We then had to take on a very strong Downlands team to try and win our group. Unfortunately they had 3 really strong players who had the edge on our girls but we dug our heels in and played some great rallies.  We could only celebrate reaching double figures and were unable to match their 21 points in every game so lost 0-5.

They went on to the final and we went through to the 3rd 4th play offs and took on a tough side from St Leonards, who again just had the edge on us in all 5 games.

So we come home placed a respectable 4th in the county with some lessons learnt and some ever improving performances each time we stepped on court. Very proud of our girls:

Phoebe Shorter, Alice Constable, Poppy Bissett, Lily Damazar and Tiger Innes

Some action shots and a team photo from the day’s play.

After attending an initial audition and then two further callbacks, Fifi Bloomsbury-Khier (in Year 7) has been offered the lead in a new musical coming to London's West End called 'Ruthless'! Our very talented Fifi will be playing a character called Tina who is "born to entertain" and wants to be a star. Rehearsals will get under way in February and the show starts in March. Congratulations Fifi, we can't wait to book our tickets!

Congratulations to Sophie Burchett, Tabitha Elliott and Logan Thomson, all in Year 7, for their achievements in a recent dance competition they attended with Universal Dance.

All students are part of ‘Scribble’; Universal Dance’s Junior Street Dance Crew. Due to age restrictions in the rules they had to compete in the Under 14 category against much older students regardless of the fact that they themselves are barely 12 and other members of the crew are still in primary school.

This was their debut competition performance and they placed 2nd and received high marks across all judging criteria.  Well done Sophie, Tabitha and Logan!

Charity Cake Sale - Friday 9th Feb

In April I am running the London Marathon to raise money for Dogs for Good, a charity which provides assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities and for children with autism. This is a charity very close to me, which is why I am lacing up my trainers and challenging myself to run the 26.2 miles around the capital. I also want to prove to the students that although they see us as adults having it all sorted, in reality we all face challenges, and have to overcome hurdles to achieve our goals, whether that be personal or professional/academic. I want to show the students that if you put your mind to something and are determined to work hard you can achieve the most incredible things!  As part of my fundraising I am going to be holding a cake sale on the last day of this term, Friday 9th February.

If you are able to help with a donation of cakes/biscuits etc for the sale then they will be very warmly welcomed.  These could be brought down to the flexible learning office by students or handed in at reception.  Please remind your son/daughter to bring in money on Friday 9th February if they would like to buy cakes on the day. The cake sale will run at both break and lunch time.

Thank you, Miss Surrage (Flexible Learning)

As always we would love to hear from you if you have news of any achievements by our students in activities out of College.  Please email details to t.fletcher@uckfield.college.
