UCTC Life - 15th September 2017
The September 2017 edition of the Uckfield College Newsletter is now available.
Students at Uckfield Community College achieved the best set of GCSE results in the school’s history with 76% of students achieving English and Maths GCSE at grades 9-4 and an overall 5A*-C of 79%. This is the first year of the new, more challenging GCSEs in Maths and English and the first year with the new 1-9 grades.
A Level Results Improve Again
Students, staff and parents celebrated yet another very successful set of A level results at Uckfield Sixth Form College. 24% of the results achieved the highest grades of A*/A, the percentage of A*-B grades was 55% and of A*-C was 78%. The average grade students achieved was a B. These results were an improvement on last year’s very strong results.
Celebrating 15 years of electric car racing in the car park of TR Fastenings, the Uckfield Grand Prix was bigger and better than ever this year. 24 racing car teams of year 6 students came together to fiercely compete for the glory of a win for their school. Months of preparation were evident in the Paddock as the cars and excited teams were getting prepared for the first racing heats.
Year 10 drama students gave their audience a thought-provoking evening of performances on the theme of Youth Homelessness on Friday 14th July. The devised pieces created by the students explored the causes and effects of homelessness upon young people using a variety of abstract techniques from companies such as Frantic Assembly, Off Balance and The Paper Birds. Audience members were genuinely moved by some of the stories explored and then entertained by a final piece about the silliness of First World Problems in comparison to the other issues presented.
On Wednesday 12th July 10 UCTC Sixth Formers took the trip to Heathfield Sixth Form to take part in an inter-college University Challenge against Hailsham, Heathfield and Uplands.
